Visiting Southern Nevada
From the shores of Lake Mead and Las Vegas Bay, to the pleasant atmosphere of Henderson, southern Nevada is a treat to visit during spring. Many visitors seek dream-worthy escapades around the strip in Las Vegas. There’s certainly a time and a place for a trip of such magnitude – for the authentic southern Nevada experience, however, the surrounding areas provide the real fun. Pahrump, west of Las Vegas near the California border, is home to the Pahrump Valley Speedway – visit on March 30th for the IMCA Modified, featuring Mini Stock, Mod Mini, and Dwarf race cars.
Experience southern Nevada away from the Strip and head for Henderson. A charming city, Henderson is set southeast of downtown Las Vegas, accessed easily from I-515. Enjoy pleasant spring and early summer weather in Henderson when you explore the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve – an absolute must for birding enthusiasts.
Make your way to the Henderson Convention Center, March 15th – 17th, for Anderson’s American Indian Shows. An annual event popular with locals, the Anderson American Indian Shows feature vendors displaying authentic Native American art, food from local artisans, and live entertainment – an ideal show for the whole family.
Plan for an afternoon of art and local culture when you explore the Art Festival of Henderson, May 11th and 12th. Head for the Henderson Events Plaza and have a blast.
Further northeast along I-15 you’ll find Mesquite. Visit the Mesquite Fine Art Center, or take the kids over to the Virgin Valley Heritage Museum. April 8th – 13th, you’ll be dazzled by the speed and ferocity of World Mini Grand Prix, a thrilling motocross event held at the Mesquite MX Park.
When you visit Tonopah in the spring, you’re in prime visiting time for a trek through the Tonopah Historic Mining Park. With more than 100 acres, the Tonopah Historic Mining Park features guided tours, insightful exhibits, and the Burro Tunnel – take the kids and experience a bit of southern Nevada history. Further insights into local lore are found at the Central Nevada Museum – open Tuesdays through Saturdays, and always free admission.
