Visiting Southern Nevada

Spring 2014 in Southern Nevada sees law enforcement teams running the 30th Annual Challenge Cup Relay. A 120-mile, 20-stage foot race along a course from neighboring Bakersfield California to Las Vegas, the Challenge Cup passes through Pahrump at the halfway mark. Visit Pahrump and cheer on Nevada’s finest.

The Pahrump Arts Council presents the 19th Art & Sol in the Desert in collaboration with the 2014 High Desert International Film Festival, May 22nd through the 25th. Held at the Pahrump Nugget event center, events feature short films, art, wine, and music. Outside the Nugget at the intersection of Nevada Routes 160 and 372, enjoy a festive Street Faire with music, displays, and arts and crafts.

The fourth of July in southern Nevada offers all-American small town events, and festivities on the Las Vegas strip where visitors party in the street to see one of the largest displays of fireworks in the U.S. The community of Tonopah celebrates with a Fourth of July Barbecue and Fireworks at the Tonopah Sports Complex. Visitors in Pahrump enjoy Independence Day in Petrack Park with food, games, live music, and fireworks after dark.

Travelers down through southern Nevada, catch auto-racing excitement at the Tonopah Speedway, and the Pahrump Valley Speedway. The 2014 schedule at Tonopah Speedway begins with the first race May 10th, events run through summer and end on September 20th. Pahrump Valley Speedway is open for 2014 spring and summer racing, with summer months offering a minimum of two race nights.

Spring and summer in southern Nevada is prime season for off-road exploring. Mesquite, along Nevada’s eastern state line with Utah, is a gateway to the Logandale Trails loop, featuring the red sands of Mesquite’s Nevada deserts, while the Key West Mine River and Seeps trail loop takes riders through the Virgin Mountain foothills.

Mesquite is also a gateway to spectacular natural setting of Valley of Fire State Park, the Silver State’s oldest and largest State Park. Spend a day exploring Valley of Fire, you will see where the name comes from, as red sandstone formations are lit when the sun passes over. Valley of the Sun State Park is located midway between Las Vegas and Mesquite, south of Interstate 15.
