Visiting Southern Nevada
A visit to southern Nevada can yield aquatic adventures on Lake Mead – among other outdoor recreations – multi-day road trips through local must-see attractions, and a whole host of pleasant and attractive sites to help make your visit memorable. Plan your next visit to the Silver State for summer, autumn, or into the winter and have a blast exploring the southern region.
Though many will know southern NV as the home of Las Vegas, you’ll find a variety of welcoming and warm cities, each offering seasonal events and celebrations sure to entertain all members of the family. Make your way Pahrump, found directly west of Las Vegas on the opposite side of Toiyabe National Forest.
Make sure you visit the area in late September and treat the family to a day or two at the 2016 Pahrump Fall Festival. Held from September 22nd to September 25th at Petrack Park, the Pahrump Fall Festival has rides for all ages, a sprawling array of food vendors, and special for this year, the “moving” Vietnam War Memorial Wall.
Later in the year, as winter sets in, be sure to check out one of Pahrump’s premier sand dunes events – Best in the Desert Pahrump Nugget 250 “Race for the Gold.” From December 1st through 4th, nearly 175 trucks, cars, and UTVs will race the 242-mile loop for a chance to win huge prizes.
In late October, you’ll want to make plans to visit Henderson. Because it yields such quick and easy trips into Las Vegas, Henderson is a premier destination for it’s own local events, and those nearby to the north. A great option for those visiting with kids, the Henderson Fire Department Open House is should be just the ticket. On August 13th, the HFD opens up their doors – the kids can learn firsthand about fire prevention, climb aboard one of the fire trucks, and tour the fire station.
Later in August, visitors to Henderson will have the pleasure of attending this year’s High Roller$ Cat Show – spelled just like that. On August 27th and 28th, head for the Henderson Multigenerational Center for breeder chats, educational booths, and pet vendors, if you feel like taking one home.
Enjoy a New Years Eve celebration in the heart of Las Vegas with Maroon 5. Catch this mega popular band play their hits across two nights, December 30th and 31st, at the Mandalay Bay Casino. Each show starts at 8 p.m. Make the short drive in from nearby North Las Vegas.
