Visiting Southern Nevada
While most of the country is slogging its way through winter, southern Nevada is in its prime. Sunny, breezy, and mild days mean opportunities for outdoor adventures abound and communities welcome visitors with a wealth of special events and family-friendly activities.
The beautiful weather also makes a scenic driving tour that much more inviting. Pack up the car – or the motorcycle – and set off through southern Nevada’s otherworldly landscape. Countless roadside attractions provide plenty of reasons to stop along the way and communities like Pahrump, Mesquite, and Tonopah make ideal destinations.
Boulder City, just minutes from Lake Mead National Recreation Area, promises plenty of things to see and do this season – and visitors to Henderson and Las Vegas are invited to head over. For those looking to get out and get active, the 2016 Blood, Sweat & Beers Trail Race is just the thing. Runners choose from a variety of courses, including a 5K and 27.2-mile marathon, starting at Bootleg Canyon, the morning of February 27th. Be sure to stick around and rehydrate with a cold one at the post-race festivities.
For the cold one without the big run, there’s always the 4th Annual Boulder City Beerfest. Head for the Wilber Square Park in Boulder City on March 26th to sample the suds of some of Nevada’s finest brewers. Open to the public, this beer party features vendors and a wide variety of food trucks, starting at 1 p.m.
Traveling with a furry friend in tow? Check out the 13th Annual Bark in the Park on March 5th. The 2016 iteration of this popular pet-friendly party is held at Henderson's Cornerstone Park, where, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you and your dog can enjoy games, contests, entertainment, and vendors.
Join residents in celebrating Henderson’s history with a festive parade, a food and music festival, and a car show on April 23rd. The 2016 Henderson Heritage Parade & Festival takes over venues throughout Henderson, including the Henderson Convention Center Lawn and the Henderson Events Plaza.
