Visiting Northern Nevada

Experience Northern Nevada’s rich spring and summer events and festivals. The Wild West is alive and well – see for yourself at June’s Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West, the Reno Rodeo. Fallon hosts the Churchill Country Fair & Ranch Rodeo at the beginning of August, with Fernley showcasing up and coming cowboys and cowgirls at the Fernley Junior Rodeo in mid-July.

Celebrate northern Nevada culture and heritage at the 103rd Carson Valley Days celebration. The 2014 festivities are held June 6th through 9th, and benefit needy children in Douglas County. Join the fun at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, and don’t miss the parade through town. Admission is free, come out and enjoy live entertainment, the carnival, and fun activities.

Fears, Tears, & Beers – the Ely Mountain Bike Enduro Race. The 2014 Fear, Tears, & Beers mountain bike event in Ely is June 14th, featuring men’s and women’s divisions from beginner to professional. Join the start at Broadbent Park on Mill Street, with courses on BLM and USFS land. Bike up the mountain and descend on timed sections of the course through winding downhill and sprint segments. The sum of your time determines if you are a winner.

Ely honors the all-American tradition of the fair as host of the White Pine County Fair & Horse Races. The 2014 fair is August 15th through 17th, with horse racing on the 16th and 17th. Visit Ely earlier in June for The Great Bathtub Races on the 28th. The 2014 races are held at Cave Lake State Park, and also feature canoe and kayak races.

Theater fans visiting Reno, be sure to mark the calendar for the 2014 Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival July 11th through August 24th. Evening performances take the stage at the Theater at Sand Harbor on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The featured 2014 production is Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, As You Like It.

Experience a beautiful end of summer at the 2014 Great Reno Balloon Race September 5th through 7th. Branded the World’s Largest Free Hot-Air Ballooning Event, highlights include the Cloud 9 VIP Club, Mass Ascension Launch, and Glow Shows. Held at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, GRBR events begin early morning with Glow Shows, Dawn Patrol, and Mass Ascension Launches. Bring a blanket and lawn chair and prepare to be amazed at the mass of colorful hot-air balloons rising along with the sun.
