Visiting Northern Nevada
Springtime breathes life into northern Nevada, and communities from Elko to Gardnerville welcome visiting families with all kinds of ways to have fun indoors and outdoors. Once-in-a-lifetime events, annual festivals, and countless iconic attractions – there’s much to see and do in northern Nevada this time of year.
Mild spring weather means now’s the time to explore the otherworldly wonders of the northern Nevada landscape, and the best way to cover the most ground is by packing up the car and embarking on a scenic driving tour. There’s never a bad time to explore Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, and Reno, Carson City, and Winnemucca make great day trip destinations.
Music fans make their way to Reno, April 28th through 30th, for the 54th Annual Reno Jazz Festival. It’s three days of excellent jazz performances at venues like the Nightingale Concert Hall and the Lawlor Events Center in Reno. Check local listing during your visit for individual event times.
Looking for a little rodeo action? Well, the 2016 Reno Rodeo’s got a lot more than just a little. The PRCA-sanctioned event has grown to become a longstanding local tradition, and this year’s iteration is held June 16th through 25th at the Reno Rodeo Grounds, just minutes east of the Reno’s famous strip.
Running July 8th through August 21st, the 2016 Reno Shakespeare Festival is a whole different kind of fun. Bask in some of Bill’s best stories as they’re retold live at Sand Harbor State Park in Lake Tahoe for three straight weeks. Highlights include The Comedy of Errors and Forever Plaid, the musical, both showing select days at 7:30 p.m.
Then, August 28th through September 5th, arguably the world’s biggest annual celebration of all things human returns to the desert near Winnemucca. Burning Man 2016 promises an arts and cultural event like no other, and tickets are on sale now.
