Genoa Courthouse Museum

Genoa Courthouse Museum is housed in the 1865 courthouse building in Genoa, the first permanent town in Nevada. The courthouse was used while Genoa remained the county seat of Douglas County, until 1916. From 1916 to 1956, the courthouse was used as a school. In 1961, descendants of Carson Valley pioneers established the Carson Valley Historical Society and began planning for the museum. They received funds from state grants, county grants and private donations, in order to complete a major courthouse restoration project. It then became the home of the Genoa Courthouse Museum.

Tour the museum to learn about the Carson Valley pioneers and the history of the Carson Valley. See the original oak furniture from the Minden and Genoa Courthouses, as you stroll through the courtroom. Learn about John A. "Snowshoe" Thompson, a mail carrier, in the Snowshoe Thompson exhibit. There are plenty of trout to catch in this wonderful 3.5 mile long lake, since it remains stocked by the California Department of Fish and Game and the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Water sports are fun for those with a boat or personal water craft. The smooth surface is ideal for jet skiing, water-skiing and tubing, in the warm Nevada sun. Take a break to enjoy a picnic lunch in the picnic area, along the shore of the lake.
